Where, besides the Bible, does it say marriage is a sacred institution?

And if the Bible (or any other religious book) is the only largely legitimate source for this claim, why on Earth do atheists get married?Where, besides the Bible, does it say marriage is a sacred institution?
There is a difference between marriage and Christian marriage. Secular marriage is a legal binding of two entities and is recognized by the state. Christian marriage also fulfills this legal aspect but it includes a spiritual aspect whereby the two become one before God and invite him to watch over them and bless their union.

A secular marriage is bound by the laws of the land but a Christian one should be bound by biblical standards. Sadly it is not, and the difference which should be a shining light in the dark is practically non existent. I guess if I was an atheist I'm not sure I would bother but it's fair enough if some want to. I can't see a problem with it.Where, besides the Bible, does it say marriage is a sacred institution?
Marriage is a secular legal contract between two consenting adults and the State.

It has *no* religious implications whatsoever. The religious matrimonial union the churches call ';marriage'; is a completely separate and unrelated institution.
Marriage is very sacred, and when your vows are read it is a scared union that gets announced. Why atheists get married is beyond me, but they have just as much a right to be happy as we do.
Atheists get married for love, Christians get married for love and for God's happiness.
Interesting question
