Is the federal government notified of a marriage?

Or is it just kept on file with the state? Is the federal government notified of a marriage?
Marriages are public record in the state where you are married. The state maintains all of these files, so if you want to check on a marriage record, you should contact the state government, not the federal government.

If you change your last name after marriage and need a new passport or social security card, you will notify federal agencies to make these changes. If you file taxes, you will note that you are married and filing either jointly (with your income combined with your spouse's) or separately (based on your individual income alone), and these forms will go to the IRS, which is also a federal agency.

But simply, no, if you get married in Texas they don't send a copy of your certificate to some central database run by the federal government. Is the federal government notified of a marriage?
i think you have to notify them for a new social security card and passport if you've changed your name
No, it's a state matter.
Just in terms of changing your name.
