What to do when lost in a marriage after 17 yrs?
My wife started a business a year and half ago, she spends a lot of time there from 5 am to 6-7pm. I have taken over the household chores, paying the bills, and working myself 40 hours a week. All her time and money go right back into the business. Our marriage is none existent, we spend no time together. Our kids are pretty much grown. She just does not see or want to hear that she has no time for family anymore. This business is her dream but at what costWhat to do when lost in a marriage after 17 yrs?
I like your picture. :)
I started a small business 3 years ago, and Yes, it's draining. Home is chaos, and the communication with husband is B a d.
If I could do things over, we should've had a 'family meeting' of the changes coming, and Solutions from everyone on how to handle it. (You're a gem to help out at home, I don't have that going for me. *pout*)
People have told me to do this:
-hire a cleaning lady once a week, (mainly kitchen and bathroom)
-take a business class on how to delegate more work to employee/s
Maybe she's going through empty nest syndrome, and this business is replacing a void.
If you're feeling neglected, then tell her you need time together. You're in the beginnings stages of a dying marriage.
*EDIT I just re-read your question and notice your kids are still home. hello. Mine are both in high school too.
Another thing, if you and her can make some goals together, as in where you both see yourself and business in 2-3-4 months, or possibly cut down on the store open hours.
The 1-2nd years are the hardest, and I don't see how she can maintain her schedule without getting burnt out.
You should schedule things to do with children, even if by yourself, she'll feel like she's missing out. What to do when lost in a marriage after 17 yrs?
ask her over a date....

I hear people say gay marriage would hurt straight marriage and/or society, but is there any proof?
Is there any hard evidence that same sex couples uniting in marriage like everyone else would damage society? Please don't quote something that is only about gay people in general. I want to know specifically about same sex marriage.I hear people say gay marriage would hurt straight marriage and/or society, but is there any proof?
Unfortunately people don't read about their politics. I was/am
For No on Proposition 8 (California marriage should still be legal for gays)
But there are catches to it, and it does bring up a little bit of a
social argument and also fiscal defecates.
1) Kids naturally would ask teachers about it, and what are they suppose to say?
2) Why does certain churches only marry some and not others? this
would make contraversey (although i believe the church should have
the right to marry who they want)
3) Benefits within working buldings is now availble to more people and
insurances for them would also cost more money for people
4) Two friends could get married just to benefit for insurance (whether or not they are really into one another or not) this would be fraud.
(And trust me MANY people would do this)
So it isn't as simple as many people phrase.
Damage society? No. Harmful? No.
Changes for the society and economy? Yes.
I hear people say gay marriage would hurt straight marriage and/or society, but is there any proof?
The American critics of same-sex marriage betray their provincialism with this argument. The fact is that a form of gay marriage has been legal in Denmark since 1989 (full marriage rights except for adoption rights and church weddings, and a proposal now exists in the Danish parliament to allow both of those rights as well), and most of the rest of Scandinavia from not long after. Full marriage rights have existed in many Dutch cities for several years, and it was recently made legal nationwide, including the word ';marriage'; to describe it. In other words, we have a long-running ';experiment'; to examine for its results -- which have uniformly been positive. Opposition to the Danish law was led by the clergy (much the same as in the States). A survey conducted at the time revealed that 72 percent of Danish clergy were opposed to the law. It was passed anyway, and the change in the attitude of the clergy there has been dramatic -- a survey conducted in 1995 indicated that 89 percent of the Danish clergy now admit that the law is a good one and has had many beneficial effects, including a reduction in suicide, a reduction in the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and in promiscuity and infidelity among gays. Far from leading to the ';destruction of Western civilization'; as some critics (including the Southern Baptist, Mormon and Catholic churches among others) have warned, the result of the ';experiment'; has actually been civilizing and strengthening, not just to the institution of marriage, but to society as a whole. So perhaps we should accept the fact that someone else has already done the ';experiment'; and accept the results as positive. The fact that many churches are not willing to accept this evidence says more about the churches than it does about gay marriage.
Christian Conservatives choose this stance because they say that gay couples who want to get married at a church, but the church refuses to let them get married there deny them for religious reasons can sue the church. This is only true insofar as discrimination is concerned. Those cases where it was a place open to the public, and the couple was not allowed to get married there, the church was successfully sued. Places specifically only for members of that religion were not. Theyre twisting evidence for their own gain.
Gay Marriage would NOT hurt society.
If my gay neighbors get married, it doesn't affect me and my marriage any more than anything else they do in their private lives. I can't imagine how their lifestyle could crawl across the lot line and invade my house. That's just silly.
This is just another example of fabricated ';dangers'; designed to put gays down.
Yep. it would definitely help the overpopulation crisis, one of the things religious nutcases refuse to tell you. It would help starving children have homes and good lives. It would help people accept each other in general. It would help some kids stop commiting suicide.
Yes. There's proof from all the other countries like Canada and European countries where same-sex marriage has been legalized and no ill effects whatsoever have been noticed.
The ';hurt'; comes from the implication that gay marriage is impure and would destroy the traditional values of the union between a man and woman.
There is NO hard evidence at all. People are just trying to cook up reasons to deny gays.
It would convert all the straight kids in the world to be gay!
*sarcasm*
Watchlisting - I would like to see this so-called proof!
no. I live in Canada and straight people seem to be perfectly fine...

What is your opinion on gay/lesbian marriage?
I personally think its fine.
But whats your opinion?
Is it wrong? What is your opinion on gay/lesbian marriage?
I agree with you. I have no problem with it and I don't the government or the Mormon church has any right to interfere. There the reason gay marriage was defeated in California. To each there own is how I view it.What is your opinion on gay/lesbian marriage?
Yes, for the record, I think it's BLOODY wrong, 'cos God made Adam and EVE, NOT Adam and bloody STEVE! Peace and love! Be lucky! :)
it's not for me. we were born to populate the world. one gender cannot do that.

Do you support an amendment banning gay marriage like Sarah Palin?
The Washington Post reported on the speech in which Gov. Palin says she is against gay marriage and feels its a sin.. what do you say?Do you support an amendment banning gay marriage like Sarah Palin?
That' s her belief and she has a right to believe whatever she wants. That goes for everyone else who believes in the same faith. But she has to realized not everyone in America has the same belief. ANd not everyone is of the Christian faith. America is known for it diversity. That includes religion. For me I could care less what the Bible says or any other religion says. Just don't preach to me or try to shove it down my throat. Most likely it'll go in on ear and out the other. After all government has no right telling people who they can date or fall in love with. In fact no one. They should keep their faith to themselves. If they want to represent true democracy, then they should treat everyone equal, despite religion, sex, nationality or sexual orientation.Do you support an amendment banning gay marriage like Sarah Palin?
I think fornication, sex before marriage, being drunk, not taking care of your children if your are a parent, adultery, lying, stealing, jealousy, envy, and many many others are also a sin. BUT I wouldn't put a ban on any of it.
The way people feel about gay marriage is the same way African Americans were treated before and during the Civil Rights Movement, and the treatment of the victims of the Holocaust.
I may not agree of their lifestyle, but I'm the last person to judge, and for all the true GOD believers, ';Let him who is without sin, cast the first stone';. Their marriage and their beliefs will not the affect the sanctity of my marriage and what I believe in, these are all excuses to scare others to agree to the oppression of others.
Politicians also scared people about the actions of making black and white people equal.
We here in Ca. are being asked to vote on this very issue. Prop 8.
Gay Marriage or any marriage should not be voted on. BUT if people choose to vote on whether or not gay couples should or should not marry then I want to vote on all the horrible hetero marriages too.
No amendment, equality for all Americans regardless of color, creed, religion or sexual orientation.
I think marriage is bourgeoise romanticism's finest hour. But, hey, just because I'm an old crabby leftist doesn't mean you young ppl shouldn't have all the romanmce you can stomach. Go for it. I'll always vote pro-gay anything. Even though I still think marriage is a dying institution.
YES - Sarah Palin should not have a gay marriage.
BUT the rest of us? We pay the same taxes and get different rights? Yeah - right. She can have her gay marriage amendment as soon as we have the soccer mom amendment:
Amended: No Person that drives children to soccer practice shall be considered for public office.
I mean it's only fair. Who's going to pick up that dropped burden of driving children to soccer practice? The Taxpayers? I think not!
Absolutely not! We have the right to the pursuit of happiness. Religion and state are supposed to be separated anyway. And the way I see it, if God was absolutely against it, then there would not be gay or lesbian couples. I say go for it, if you find the one you love, then marry them. Who are we to judge love?
Absolutely not! Church and state are supposed to be separate, first of all. And second, take the time to write out all the possible sins that Palin could ban. Let's see her daughter would have to go to jail for sex before marriage. Are they gonna start fining us for eating red meat? Look now getting a divorce is illegal again. It didn't work in the past so why does she think she can do it now?
gay marriage?
It isn't gay marriage.
It is God's marriage...
We should not legislate against ';sin'; at all. In the US, there are too many religions and we shouldn't favor one belief over another.
I say it is not my place to judge anyone. I am voting NO on 8! The supreme court already said it is legal in California. Equal rights for everyone.
No. I say live and let live. Let gay people live their own lives.
Biden says the same thing.

Do you believe in no sex before marriage?
I do.
You wear a white dress for a reason and your honeymoon is to have sex for the first time after getting married.
Tell me what you think.Do you believe in no sex before marriage?
I do. Yes... The white dress symbolizes purity, and that you're pretty much giving it to him on your wedding day... I'm a christian, and the bible says sex before marriage is wrong, so I go by that guideline. Its so cool [i think] to be able to give your husband your purity... for him to have, and nobody else!
its hard in this crazy world to stick up for what you believe, but I have, I have a ring that reminds me daily of what I believe. it says simply ';true love waits';.
Its cool to have somebody on here that believes that same thing! go you! :)Do you believe in no sex before marriage?
I just heard this five-minute clip last night that offers a good explanation. It talks about what many people often say against this-that people can't know if they are sexually compatible or if their sex life will be good if they don't have sex before marriage.
This is the MP3 file link:

So, yes, I do believe in no sex before marriage.
Comments on some answers below...
';For real. You don't know WHAT you may be getting (or not getting) yourself into.';
That's why you actually form and grow a relationship by getting to know your future spouse. That's why you begin to ask the deeper questions. You can find out just about everything about a person before you get in bed with them. If they are pouring their heart out to you before marriage and sex, you will know if you're relationally compatible with them to begin with.
Seriously, why go to bed with someone who's 'good' but is an all-around boring, unrelational person or simply is incompatible relationally with you?
';This isn't the ideal world though, and what I'd do before marriage might not be what you should do.';
...right, so you can do whatever you want because it's not a perfect world. I guess I should go around killing people, too, because it isn't an ideal world and what I do might not be what you should do.
I think it is unrealistic to not have sex before marriage. Then I feel like you end up getting married early just to have sex and then maybe marrying the wrong person.';
There'd be no divorces, and no abortions. Wouldn't it be nice?
This isn't the ideal world though, and what I'd do before marriage might not be what you should do. It's a matter of conscience and wisdom and of God, if you're a believer.
but for me, i dont have to worry about it. :]
Yeeeeep
It's too important a part of human relationships to be left out of the mix before you commit';
This is the problem. I will say that sex is a good part of marriage (or just life in general), but to put that much importance on it is just stupid, in my opinion.
I think that its a personal choice. White on your wedding day is a tradition regardless of whether or not you are a virgin.
Besides, in my personal opinion, there is absolutely nothing romantic about feeling like you are being ripped in half from the inside out.
I believe it is best for me. That is what I did, it's what I teach my kids. HOWEVER, I believe the bible. I am aware that others don't. I'm not going to force my concepts of morality on others nor am I going to judge those who have different ideas about sex.
I am 40 and single never married, tried 4 times, the woman just take you, it's hard to explain.
Something about a nude hottie rubbing all over you makes it impossible to not have sex.
Because it's a good choice for you doesn't make it the right choice for everybody.
Outside of fundamentalists , who want to impose a rigid set of rules on everyone, most people respect individual choice in this matter.
no..i believe in sex before marriage....as long as youre not giving it out like candy...
im pretty sure all those wearing white wedding dresses arent virgins....
and what happens if you never get married? are you not supposed to have sex at all? that would just be crazy
No, because how do you know you're sexually compatible before you get married? If it turns out you're not, i'm sure you'd increase chances of infidelity and probably divorce.
No, I think its idiotic. Its just as important to be sexually compatible as it is to be mentally and emotionally compatible.
Btw, white is just a color, kid.
No way, seriously, How do you know if you are going to enjoy each other sexually? Marriage is a middle ages concept and has ZERO to do with God
Yes I do. But whatever happens happens I think. if youre truly in love. then go ahead. but dont just do it for no reason. I think you should be in love.
I think so too!
The best gift you can
give is each other!
It's part of the reason to
get married, because
you have eachother fully,
if you have sex before marriage,
then what's the point?
For me, no. But that's fine for some. I actually believe in sex before marriage because I want to know what I'm getting into before I get married. Sex says a lot about someone I think.
Hell no, my mama told me never to marry a man who doesn't know what to do with his penis. There is only one way to find out!
Safely, of course.
Absolutely.
Also, no STDs and no unintended pregnancies.
My wife believes in no sex during marriage.
God Bless you! (You are very rare and The Good Lord smiles on you!) Yes. I believe in NO sex before marriage. Dare to be different!!
I agree with you totally. You are right on. Purity is not the majority in today's world, but it still is the right way.
I believe in sex before marriage.
I will were a white dress just because its tradition.
Same thinking. There is a probability that the marriage does not take place.
Nope. You gotta ';try before you buy';. For real. You don't know WHAT you may be getting (or not getting) yourself into.
Yes. That is the right way, neatest way, God's way.
You wear a white dress for a reason and your honeymoon is to have sex for the first time after getting married.

This isn't the ideal world though, and what I'd do before marriage might not be what you should do. It's a matter of conscience and wisdom and of God, if you're a believer.
but for me, i dont have to worry about it. :]
Yeeeeep
It's too important a part of human relationships to be left out of the mix before you commit';
